Wool Dryer Balls vs Stinky/Toxic Dryer Sheets

The artificial smell of “freshness” created by dryer sheets and fabric softeners turns out to be worse than artificial. In fact, it’s quite stinky.

I’ve read many articles that outline how fabric softeners and dryer sheets laden with chemicals can cause everything from headaches to central nervous system disorders. In fact, I have read travel articles that suggest inserting dryer sheets into suitcases when travelling to places plagued by cockroaches, because even cockroaches avoid these toxic sheets.

THERE IS A FANTASTIC ALTERNATIVE TO THESE STINKY SHEETS AND SOFTENERS.

PURE WOOL DRYER BALLS

Currently, we use a brand called Molly’s Suds, a company committed to creating safer household products. A box of three wool dryer balls costs $14.

These wool dryer balls not only act as a natural fabric softener, but also can decrease drying time up to 30 percent. Aside from knowing that our laundry is poisoned with toxic chemicals, we love knowing we are using less electricity.

We simply plop them into our dryer and keep them there for up to 1000 loads! Once they wear out, they can even be composted!

Looking around online, I read of other people who have made the switch to these little dryer balls. People who miss the fact that their clothes do not have a scent have recommended adding a few drops of essential oil onto a dryer ball before putting it back into the dryer.

You can use a scent that pleases you: LAVENDER OR PEPPERMINT OR LEMON. AND GUESS WHAT? This can add even more benefits to your health, as essential oils can have a calming effect. Doing laundry can become a relaxing and healthy activity.
